About the Band
The Planets first formed in 2006 after Singer/songwriter Stephen Evans joined forces with Iris Nova comprising Michael Chadwick (guitars and vocals), Martin Roscoe (Drums) and Rob Bowes (Bass) They initially formed as Stephen Evans and The Planets, a name designed to reflect the sixties feel of their songwriting at the time. Since then they have changed their style somewhat as it has evolved to encompass the band members' different influences and they became "The Planets".
In late 2006 the band beat off stiff competition to get a valuable Freeflow UK award, giving them a recording session at Blue Print studios in Manchester engineered by production team "The Highway Stars". They have released two of these tracks "Evil Dead" and "Oh You", as well as "Slasher Horror" as an I-Tunes EP to coincide with the release of Motorstorm 2.
The band have had some exposure in local media, with features on BBC Manchester, Channel M and Salford City Radio and a fair bit of radio play on other local stations. The most interesting of current exposure comes in the form of computer game distribution, having one of their tracks on the soundtrack to the game Motorstorm 2 Pacific Rift.
The Planets defy any attempts at pigeonholing, which makes a refreshing change in a music industry increasingly populated by the mediocrity of the middle ground, to quote Chris Long: "Every time you think you've got a handle on The Planets sound, it darts off in another direction, citing a completely different set of influences. It's the Beatles battling T-Rex, The Kinks and Queen sharing a stall in a souk, the Police covering the Arctic Monkeys and everything in-between. Somehow, it all works. Yes, it's a slippery fish, but it's one that's worth catching"
Following in the footsteps of the Wedding Present The Planets have been producing an EP a month since December 2007, you can get hold of them here
